The Love Lottery
Laws of Attraction: The Dark Side
Laws of Attraction: How Compatible Are You?
Oh, I hope you are in love! Being in love is the most amazing feeling on the planet. If you are lucky, and if it is what you want, I hope you are in love with someone that you can really talk to about all of the most important and most intimate thoughts and feelings. And I hope you are in love with someone that you can talk to about the most trivial things, or don't have to talk to at all.
I hope you are in love with someone who thinks you are beautiful, and someone who will still think you are beautiful when you are old, or ill, or just having a bad hair day. Someone who will zip up your dress or do your tie when you go out in style to celebrate that big promotion or new contract. And someone that will hold your hair back when you have celebrated too forcefully and have to make an offering to the porcelin altar.
Someone who will be the first person to hear an exciting story from your life, and someone who won't groan audibly when you tell that story for the five thousandth time. Someone who will be the first call you make when something wonderful happens, and the first call you make when something awful happens.
The person you are in love with is going to give you sensations and feelings and ways of being in the world that you cannot achieve on your own. Even if it doesn't last "til death do you part", you have found someone that is going to "thrill you/ chill you/ fulfill you" and even if it only lasts a short while, that alone is enough.
It's easier to fall in love when you are young. When you have no baggage or expectations of failure. When you don't know yet how disappointing it is to have love and to lose it. No matter how healthy and whole you are, there is something really scary about falling in love, and it becomes scarier every time you do it.
There is a great romantic scene in the movie WHEN HARRY MET SALLY when Harry realises that he loves Sally. He stops in his tracks and turns around, running to find her. The plot is mainly driven by Harry's fear of being hurt again, and his reluctance to enter another relationship- not because he doesn't think he can love Sally, but because he knows he can.
But when he really understands that he is in love with her, he has to leap across the abyss- the same abyss that he has spent the last two movie hours staring down into and assessing all of the injuries he could sustain in doing so. None of that matters anymore. He can not walk away from the leap into the unknown. His own feelings demand that he take the risk, whether she will catch him or not.
There is no way to know if anyone is going to catch you. Even if you get married and make all the promises, the leap is the relationship. Comfort only comes in time, after making the leap over and over again, and continuing to find your lover on the other side. (The great betrayal of the lengthy marriage that ends is the feeling of safety that time and routine have provided. But there really are no gaurantees.)
Humans are made to fall in love. Yes, partly for the propagation of the species, but also for other creations. The creation of joy and love and happiness (and fantastic orgasms ;o) is just as important. We need to create ourselves again and again, and keep making ourselves new. And most of us need to have someone that we can share ourselves with deeply and intimately to really do that.
In REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE Natalie Wood's character falls in love with James Dean's character and she says, with wonder and amazement "All of this time I was looking for someone to love me, and now I love someone."
We all have an infinite well of love inside of us. The more love we give, the more we have to give. To love unconditionally is what we are on this planet to do, I believe, and sharing your life with someone gives you unending opportunities to express that love.
I already mentioned that I believe your true "soul mate" is your own self, being mate to your soul's journey on this planet. God/dess gave us free will and there are infinite possibilities present in every single moment. One of the reasons I know that we are Divinely Loved is that we are given so many choices and opportunities. Only a truly Loving universe would give us such freedom. We can create ourselves again at any time. All things are possible with Love.
There are over six billion people on the planet. To say there is only one person out there that can make you happy? No. I feel certain that there is someone out there right now that is your perfect partner. And that there always will be. Regardless of what choices you make, or changes you make to your life or yourself. The Universe is always perfectly balanced by the law of supply and demand, or karma. Always.
And if you are at a place in your life where you have nothing to give, or you are going through growth or changes or lessons, then just know that there is someone out there when you want to explore the world of "in love" again.
There is a song by Dido where she sings about waking up hungover, missing the bus, being late to work, it's raining, etc. And then she gets home and her lover hands her a towel "And all I see is you/ and even if my house falls down now/ I wouldn't have a clue/ because you're near me/ I want to thank you/ for giving me the best day of my life..."
I hope for you many "best days of your life." The best is always yet to come. Fall in love whenever you can.
PRAISES, THANKS, BLESSINGS!!!
