Every planet rules aspects of human behaviour. And each House of the Zodiac rules aspects of human endeavour. (This is a very broad, or loose, interpretation.) Each planet as it travels through a House, makes aspects to other planets. These are the chords in the song; the markings on the map.
In our developed, modern world we do not seem to feel these "tides of planetary motion" as strongly as our ancestors. But the motion is there just the same. The more planetary factors a situation contains, the more it will react to these tides.
In Vienna a situation where a woman who had been held captive by her father for 24 years, and given birth to seven of his children, was discovered this last week. I found this situation very demonstrative of Pluto's transit through Capricorn, accompanied by Jupiter, while Saturn transits Virgo.
I quote myself:
Since 20 December we have had the current ruler of the gods in grandpapa's house, Capricorn. Expansion in the house of limitation. Things that are bad will get worse.
On Burns Night, 25 January, Pluto will move into Capricorn. Pluto is a slow moving planet, and it has been in Sagitarius since 1996. Be prepared for a major shift. Pluto in the house of Karma is not something to think of lightly. Especially through 2009, during the Jupiter transit of Capricorn. The skeletons won't be rattling in the closet, they will be walking and talking, like all of those zombie movies. (Emphasis added.)
Pluto, the Greek God that ruled Hades, did not release any soul once they entered his realm. However, as a planetary ruler Pluto oversees secrets, hidden things, and skeletons in the closet (and down in the basement). I do not think it is a coincidence that this horror was uncovered during this time.
(It is particularly jolting to me that this woman, who is my age, has been imprisoned since roughly the time I left St. Louis for California! When I think of all things I have done in the last 23 years, while she has spent every day since then locked in a windowless room, being raped by her father and giving birth to his children! Incomprehensible! )
The most telling item in the story, as far as planetary activity is concerned, is that this whole situation was uncovered due to a health issue. (Saturn, the father of the Olympian Gods, is in Virgo, the ruler of health.) One of the children had become severely ill and either was dumped or escaped. When she recovered enough to talk, she led authorities to her mother and siblings, and her father/grandfather, Josef Fritzl.
In Greek mythology, Saturn (Chronos), a Titan, was defeated by his son Jupiter (Zeus), and Jupiter became ruler of the Olympian Gods. (Saturn had imprisoned his own father, Uranus, and was in expectation of this event.) Jupiter gave his brother, Pluto, rule of the Underworld. He gave his sister Demeter (Ceres) rule over human agriculture and harvest (among other things).
Pluto wanted Demeter's maiden daughter Persephone for his wife. Jupiter agreed, but did not inform Demeter or get her consent. When Pluto abducted Persephone, none of the other Gods knew where she was, and Jupiter didn't "fess up." (This is a very simplistic telling of the story, as there are layers and layers to it. Many of the Greek Gods come from older deities.)
Demeter withheld summer until Persephone was returned to her. Unfortunately, Persephone had eaten a pomegranate seed in Hades, and had to return. At least for part of the year. When Persephone is with her husband in the Underworld, there is winter, and no crops can be grown.
Mercury/Hermes and Hecate enter the picture as well. Mercury rules the Internet and messages. Hecate is one of the oldest Goddesses in existence. She is the Goddess of the Three Directions, of the moonless nights (which she illuminates with the light of her knowledge), of witches and witchcraft, and of the darkness. The Romans called her Trivia, and she was worshipped where three roads met. (Some feminist scholars consider Hecate to be another aspect of Persephone, in an earlier pantheon where Persephone ruled the Underworld as her own domain.)
This woman's father had for 24 years told the community that his daughter had run off to join a religious cult. Three of the seven children he fathered with her he raised as his own grandchildren. Naturally, the community is shocked--and betrayed. A man that was thought to be an exemplary father and grandfather has turned out to be the most heinous of monsters.
One of my dilemmas with unconditional Love, and the all-time champion of unconditional Love, Jesus, is that had Hitler prayed for forgiveness he would have recieved it. Human monsters make me wish for a Christian Hell. But I believe too, that what is in one of us, is in all of us. Whether Jesus was "just" a man, or truly an Avatar, he walked this earth as a mortal man. In each of us there is a potential Jesus.
And in each of us there is a potential Hitler, a potential Josef Fritzl, a potential monster.
It seems awful to say. But I do believe it is true. And that is why I believe that self-awareness is the only key for humanity. There are 6 billion people on the planet. We cannot hide from each other or ourselves. I do not believe that stronger laws, or the death penalty, or more bombs, or police, or returning to "traditional" values will save us. We cannot control anyone but ourselves. If every person that is strong enough to do so can open themselves up fully-- can make self-awareness and self-growth a priority-- then we have a chance.
We need a revolution of individuals-- of Higher Consciousness. I think that we must begin to look inside of ourselves. If a butterfly flapping its' wings in Argentina can affect a hurricane in China, than each person has the ability to change the world by changing him/herself. Maybe the admission of one lie in Washington, D.C. can affect the war in Iraq. I believe that the praying hermit high up in Himalayas can affect us as much as the unbalanced, random school shooter. I believe that we are part of collective.
It doesn't always seem that way. And that belief takes a lot of faith, especially in the face of truly shocking news. But I am always able to take comfort in the planets and stars. We are part of a Divine dance.
And right now it is the clearing of skeletons so that new things can be born. Lies and secrets must be uncovered so that Truth can be set free. By staying in tune with the mystic, and the mythic, there is guidance. The more that we align ourselves with currents and tides of the Universe, the easier our journey.
