You will see alot of calendars, even neo-Pagan ones, list April 30 as Bealtaine, or Beltane, Eve. Like Halloween, the other ancient Druidic "quarter day" fire festival, it has become a fixed date and its origins have become obscured.
There are two "portals" or doorways between this world and the spirit world. One is the doorway to the world of the dead, the spirits that have lived in this world and then passed on. That is the eve of Samhain, when the sun reaches 15 degrees of Scorpio. Samhain is the ancestor of Halloween.
The doorway between this world and the new spirits that want to be born, both human and non-human, animal and vegetable, is Bealtaine, when the sun reaches 15 degrees Taurus. This year May Eve falls on Cinqo de Mayo, the Fifth of May. Have some cervezas (beers) but be careful about celebrating in the traditional way, by having sex outdoors. This is a year of surprises and heavy karma.
The full moon takes place in the wee hours Wednesday morning. Tuesday night wouldn't be a bad night to hold your full moon rite. Monday would be fine too, if you plan to celebrate Beltane Eve on April 30. Make yourself some special annointing oil or protection sachet for Saturday night, just in case you celebrate more than you mean to.
In the interest of self-preservation and greater use of my power, and perhaps some weariness, I have decided to just focus in on my day to day life for the next two weeks. I have been thinking alot about my "gifts" and how to best use them. I will at some point finish my series on the law of attraction and prosperity thinking, but at the moment I have decided to plant the seeds in my own garden, and spend some time weeding and reflecting.
Bealtaine is still used in Ireland as the month name for May (as is Samhain for November). To the ancient Celts there were only two halves of the year, waxing and waning. Bealtaine marks the beginning of the growth and increase.
What shall we grow this year?
PRAISES, THANKS, & BLESSINGS!!!
