If one compares the yearly cycle of the sun to the monthly cycle of the moon, then, in the Northern Hemisphere, we have what amounts to a "full sun." The sun is strongest at this time of year, not just in summer heat, but astrologically and magically as well.
Everyone "follows" or perhaps "feels" two or more calendars. The first is from birthday to birthday, the second the solar year, which is very close to our calendar year. Witches like myself also follow the 13 cycles of the moon, as well as the two halves of the year, waxing Bealtaine and waning Samhain. The only common calendar is the solar calendar. And, unlike the calendar year and it's imprecise reliance on human clock time --necessitating Leap Year-- it can be measured by observation of the sun itself, as can moon cycles by observing the moon, and Bealtaine and Samhain by observing the Sun's placement astrologically.
In personal astrology I believe that the three most important factors in a person's chart are sun sign (who you really are inside, what motivates you, etc), rising sign (how you go through life and how you appear to others), and moon sign (your emotional cycles and day to day living). Of those three, again, it is the sun sign that can most quickly and easily be identified, "cusp" babies notwithstanding.
Happy Full Sun!!! Dance the Solstice dance, celebrate the green growing things, and if you have a garden, this is the last day to plant corn if you want to have a some small ears by Lughnassad. Sing blessings to the healing of the earth, and praise the growing Corn King. Give thanks for all you have.
PRAISES, THANKS, AND BLESSINGS!!!
