I have a post about my mystical experience on Easter Sunday at Mass, however, like many people this week, I am overwhelmed. While this week has not been overburdened with commitments, my energy is low. It seems to be a feeling that many people I know are experiencing.
Collectivly I feel that humanity is losing its vision of the future. As a species we rely on a certain continuity for the framework of our day to day lives, and too many things are happening in too many places and in too many spheres of existence:
Many natural disasters that are making us feel uneasy about our planetary health; human diseases and fear of epi and pan demics; wars, terrorism, rioting, governmental strife and general unrest; unstable economies and the ever greater gap between the rich and the poor; all of these things are breaking down the framework of daily life in too many places and too many stratums of society.
I feel that on the one hand, some of what is happening must happen if we are going to globally save ourselves. In particular, our daily way of life is going to have to breakdown to some extent if we are going to turn ourselves around and begin healing the planet. There seems little hope of humanity's survival even another 100 years if we do not begin to address issues like global warming, solar "dimming", water and air pollution, etc.
The earth has been much hotter and much colder. We are the ones who can only live in very narrow temperature range, and in very limited natural conditions. We are the only species that is not in balance with the environment. We take and we do not give back. If we kill ourselves off, we shall take many other species with us, but ultimately, nature will triumph.
I do not believe, as some sensationalist billboards have been suggesting, that 6+6+06 ("the signs are all around you") is the Apocalypse. There was a 6 June 1906, 1806, 1706, etc. There was even a 6 June 1966, 1866, 1766, etc.
I do think that the next ten years will be our "last days of the dinosaurs and/or the last days of the Roman Empire". That is where we are right now unless we begin to turn things around. We can use this unsettling time to make the changes we need or we can go down in history with the pterydactyl and Caesar.
How to change? How to make the world a better place? What to create and what to preserve and what to destroy?
Let's start at the only place we can start, at the only place we can really make a difference: in our own lives.
My suggestion, especially this weekend, is to think over what simple things make your life worth living. Turn off the tv and the computer if you always have them on. Don't eat any fast food or even any take out. Prepare as many fresh meals as you can and revel in fresh foods. Turn off your cell phone and don't be available for everyone. Make some time to really look at what blessing you have and what makes your life worth living.
At night let your consciousness reach up to a star. Make a wish for yourself. Then make a wish for the world.
Root yourself in simple pleasures, in goals that excite you, and in the blessings that are already present in your life. It is of vital importance that we do this now. The more unsteady the rest of the world becomes, the more important it is for those that are inclined (whether spiritually, magically, or both) to become firmly rooted in authentic pleasures and simple joys.
For each of us this task is no less important than Frodo's journey to Mordred, Luke Skywalker's battle with Darth Vader, or Harry Potter's battle with Voldemort. An army of mystical warriors is necessary right now. We may not be battling Evil with sabers or swords, but by our actions of faith in our future, self-awareness, and thankful hearts, we are doing as much to overcome "the dark forces" as any of those imaginary saviours.
Please check back over the weekend for "The Resurrection and The Life." The mystical message of Christ and The Sophia.
PRAISES, THANKS, & BLESSINGS!!!
PLANT THE SEED NOW: Bealtaine is coming up (May 6 is the actual date of the sun at 15 degrees Taurus, but even most Pagans and witches will celebrate on the 1st). Make a committment to yourself for the "waxing" half of the year. Between Bealtaine and Samhain (May Day to Halloween) pick one thing about your life you want to change and committ to working on it. Set goals, but be flexible. The world might go mad and plans might have to change, but find something that you know will really make you happy. Something you really want to accomplish, and put all of your heart behind it for six months. (For me it is losing weight and writing a book.)
