American Heritage® Dictionary: Definition of epiphany
- NOUN: 1. Epiphany a. A Christian feast celebrating the manifestation of the divine nature of Jesus to the Gentiles as represented by the Magi. b. January 6, on which this feast is traditionally observed. OTHER FORMS: epiphanic (p-fnk) , pl. epiphanies.
It has come to mean a "spiritual realization" as per Mr. Joyce.
Today is a good day for prayer and reflection. For closing your eyes and bowing your head and asking for direction towards that which you seek, and emptying yourself of expectations on how to find it. When you open your eyes you may find a star brighter than has ever shone before. It may lead you on a difficult journey, and it may not lead you to hidden wealth or the halls of kings. But take your gold and your most precious of gifts on the journey as offerings, because that which you find may be the greatest light the world has ever seen.
Epiphany is a feast day in the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, and Gnostic churches, it is also the day that the Orthodox Churches celebrate Christmas, and until the early 20th century many people did not give gifts until Epiphany (other than Christmas stockings for Children). Moreover, much Christian liturgy owes a debt to the Magi and their gifts, and their recognition of Christ as one above earthly kings (in refusing to return to Herod and report where the sacred child had been found).
What does a witch who loves Jesus do on Epiphany? I have set this day aside on my yearly calendar as a day of prayer and reflection. I will return tomorrow, hopefully blessed, certainly renewed.
For those of you that made New Year's resolutions to join a gym or start a retirement account or begin a business, etc, tomorrow after 11:09 AM PST the moon is in Taurus and it is the second quarter. Things started or begun during a Taurus moon in the 2nd quarter have a way of increasing in value and enduring. (It also makes the contract harder to break, so make sure of what you are signing.)
Tomorrow is not a good day to quit smoking or start a diet, but if you are joining a group to help you with the goals then join tomorrow. When I quit smoking three years ago I joined the smoking cessation class during a Taurus moon but only attended until the fourth quarter Aquarius moon that helped to quit for good. Tomorrow I am joining Weight Watchers but I am giving myself a two week leeway to really start the plan in earnest.
PRAISES THANKS & BLESSINGS!!!
MAY THE DIVINE LIGHT SHINE BRIGHTLY ON YOU AND ALL OF YOUR ENDEAVOURS!!!
